What is NAICS?
The North American Industry Classification System (NAICS)
is an industrial classification system that was elaborated by statistical
organizations of Canada, Mexico and the United States of America. Created
with the North American Free Trade Agreement as a background, the NAICS
aims at providing standard definitions of the economical situation of the
three countries and a common statistical context to facilitate the
analysis of the three economies.
This system was created to give a coherent structure when collecting, analysing and
broadcasting industrial statistics used by government political analysts,
university students, researchers, business people and the general public.
The NAICS reflects the huge technological changes as well as the
phenomenal speed encountered in the growth and diversity of services that
have defined the last decades.
For more information, visit Statistics
Canada website.
icriq.com uses the North American Industry Classification System to
classify companies.
Previously, the Classification des activités économiques du Québec (CAEQ)
was also used.
The Classification des activités économiques du Québec (CAEQ) is a
classification system that was conceived by the Bureau de la statistique
du Québec which is now the Institut de la statistique du Québec (ISQ).
The last
version used on icriq.com dated from 1984.

How is the company information
collected and updated?
Each company profile is built using information entered on a form
signed by a company representative and supported by adequate documentation
of the company's activities (product catalogue, brochure, etc.). Each
product is identified using appropriate terminology. This information is
then codified, normalized and entered according to strict data entry norms
and pre-established definitions.
The information is provided directly by the companies. Then, it is
verified to correctly classify each registered company, therefore offering
a greater reliability. Our team does not simply enter data. Our
specialists go through many validation, treatment and classification steps
that allow us to build the most reliable industrial business directory available. It is important to mention that the update form completed by
the company must always be signed by the company representative.
The information benefits from a continual update. The companies are
contacted once a year to validate their profile.

You can update your company's profile online by using the Modify my
profile link at the bottom page of your profile or at Update Your Profile in the
